Honda gives the Odyssey a facelift and new features for 2021 - Driving

Family units shopping for a minivan to house that hockey team you call a family will find a slightly refreshed Odyssey if they venture onto Honda lots during the 2021 model year.

A restyled grille and front bumper fascia, revised front lighting, and new trim under the rear window update its exterior look; while a few new interior features help make sure all hands are safe and sound.

Speaking to the latter, Honda has leveraged existing technology baked into the Odyssey to create a unique take on the disheartening trend of having to remind harried drivers there’s someone in the back seat.

A new Rear Seat Reminder system is standard across party lines and, for the first time, can also be integrated with the available CabinWatch spying child-viewing system. Odyssey vans equipped with this feature and the associated CabinTalk kit can use both systems simultaneously in an effort to remind themselves about the presence of other, erm, passengers. It distresses your author greatly that this tech is needed but we commend Honda for building a better mousetrap than a simple dashboard warning which can be easily missed.

Interestingly, the upgrade will be retroactively applied to similarly-equipped 2018 to 2020 model Odyssey vans through an over-the-air update. It’d seem the days of factory-to-customer upgrades being the sole domain of Tesla are long behind us. We’ve pinged the folks at Honda in this country to make sure those updates are available to Canadian customers as well.

Elsewhere in the Odyssey’s interior, a smattering of trim and finish changes are present, along with a new method of folding the second-row seats. According to Honda, the second-row seats on all Odyssey trims now fold flatter, making them easier to remove while offering a few more cargo-carrying options for the trip home from Lowe’s.

Canadian pricing for the 2021 Honda Odyssey is as yet unreleased but shoppers south of the border will notice an increase of about $1,000 depending on trim level, so it’s not unreasonable to expect a similar hike in this country. Entry-level Odyssey vans currently start just under $40,000.
