Hybrid Honda Accord offers antidote to high gas prices - South Bend Tribune

With gas prices rising steadily over the past several months, Honda offers a wide array of vehicles aimed at minimizing the dink in your wallet.

Though nearly every vehicle produced by the automaker is at or near the top of its class when it comes to efficiency, Honda also offers a variety of even stingier hybrids for those who are interested in maximizing their fuel economy while lessening their environmental impact.

The super popular CR-V is the newest hybrid offered by the automaker, but the Accord and the Insight are also popular options for those looking to maximize the number of miles they can travel on a gallon of fuel.

Named to Car and Driver’s 10 Best list for an unprecedented 35th time, all Accords are known for their comfort, safety, efficiency and engaging performance. But the hybrid models go one better by achieving 48 mpg in city or highway driving while also providing 212-net horsepower.

“As gas prices have been going up, we’ve noticed there’s been a lot more interest in Honda’s hybrid lineup,” said Matt LaPrad, a sales consultant at Basney Honda in Mishawaka. “We expect that’s going to continue, especially if prices break $3 per gallon this summer.”

A top safety pick, the Accord comes standard with antilock brakes with brakeforce distribution and brake assist, an electric parking brake with brake hold, stability and traction control, a rearview camera with guidelines, hill start assist and an acoustic vehicle alert system which provides a warning sound for pedestrians and bicyclists when the vehicle is traveling in EV mode.

Advanced safety features include adaptive cruise control with low-speed follow, collision mitigation braking, road-departure mitigation, automatic high beams, lane-keep assist, forward collision warning and traffic sign recognition.

The base hybrid comes with full power accessories, 17-inch alloy wheels, keyless entry with push-button start, remote start, automatic on/off headlights, automatic dual-zone climate control, an 8-inch touch screen, Bluetooth and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration.

The EX adds heated front seats, a 12-way power driver’s seat, a moon roof, blind-spot monitoring with cross-traffic monitoring, wireless phone charging, heated outside mirrors, fog lights and an upgraded audio system with satellite and HD radio.

The EX-L further offers leather-trimmed upholstery, driver memory functions, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, a four-way power passenger’s seat, parking sensors and a premium audio system. The top-end Touring adds heated rear seats, cooled front seats, 19-inch wheels, a heads-up display, low-speed braking control, navigation, a Wi-Fi hotspot and rain-sensing wipers.

Though industrywide computer-chip supply issues are plaguing some dealerships, Basney has a good inventory because it’s snatched up every extra allocation of vehicles that’s been offered over the past couple of months.

The Basney Honda showroom, at 3820 N. Grape Road, Mishawaka, is open 8:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday and Thursday; 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday; and 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.
