Honda books sales growth in 2020; Nissan slips - Automotive News

Honda shored up sales in China in 2020 as demand continued to accelerate as the year closed, but Nissan brand volume contracted along with the overall market.

Honda deliveries spiked 46 percent to approach 209,000 in December, with  annual volume growing 4.7 percent to nearly 1.63 million, Honda Motor Co.’s China office said this week.

Three models – the Accord and Civic sedans and the CR-V crossover – each generated volume of more than 200,000 last year. Sales of hybrid models across Honda’s product range reached a record high of 201,499 in 2020, the office noted.

By contrast, the post-pandemic sales recovery at Nissan ran out of steam. In December, the brand’s deliveries edged up 0.4 percent to 168,917, with annual volume dropping 5.8 percent to below 1.46 million.

Toyota Motor Corp. said last week it delivered some 1.58 million light vehicles under the Toyota brand in China in 2020. That represents an increase of 11 percent from a year earlier.
